… or granny stripes shawl…
Use the yarn you like (cotton or wool) – as many colours as you like, and a crochet hook that matches the yarn.
Start: ch 5, join to a ring with slip st in first ch.
Row 1: ch 4 (= first dc), 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in ring
(I started all the rounds with 4 ch (instead of 3 ch) as first dc. Felt it made the edge a little more elastic.)
Row 2: 4 ch, 2 dc in first st (last st on previous row), ch 1, (3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc) in 3 ch on last row (corner), ch1, 3 dc in first dc on last row.
I made 3 rows with the first colour.
Row 3: ch 4, 2 dc in first st, ch 1, 3 dc in ch on last row, ch 1, (3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc) in corner, ch 1, 3 dc in ch on last row, ch 1, 3 dc in last st.
Now you can change to another colour.
All the following rows will be as row 3 – with 1 group of 3 dc more on the two sides for each row.
Continue with two rows in each colour.
Keep crocheting untill the shawl has the size you want.
The edging:
First a row of sc all the way round. Start in the circle of 5 ch you made in the beginning. It’s hard to explain where I make the stitches… hope the photo can help. 3 ch in the point.
On the sides with dc groups, crochet sc only in the dc on last row (skip the ch st).
Finish round with slip st in first sc.
Shell edging:
Start with 1 sc, *skip 1 st, 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st, sc in next st*, continue with * – * all the way round.
I hope I remembered everything. Just ask if something’s unclear…
